White Table Tarot: A Deeper Look (6 of 6)

Lo Que Es Trabajar la Obra. What It Means to Do the Sacred Work.

This is the final piece in my short series on the Mesa Blanca.

In this post, we’ll explore what it means to trabajar la obra and specifically, how to use the fuentes (water goblets) in sacred service.

Using the Fuentes (Water Goblets)

The Mesa Blanca and Bóveda are never used for magical manipulation or spellcasting. They are points of light and serve as focal spaces through which we communicate with and elevate Spirit.

That said, one may call upon the spirits to assist with a purpose or prayer by arranging the fuentes in symbolic formations, creating a spiritual “code.” These placements are not spells; they are prayers made visible; a way to organize energy and intention with reverence.

Below are four traditional and widely used fuente placements:

1. Protection

When seeking spiritual or physical protection, especially in legal matters or when facing spiritual interference, place eight small goblets filled with ice-cold water and a bay leaf in each glass.

Arrange them in a circle around one larger central fuente. This configuration cools and stabilizes energy while invoking your protectores to stand guard.

2. Removing or Banishing Spirits, Negativity, or Obstacles

This placement is known as Menguante, symbolizing waning, the time for release.

Arrange the goblets in a V shape, with the largest fuente at the back point and four smaller ones on each side, forming the arms of the V.

This pattern is often used during veladas (vigils) or novenas for cleansing and banishment.

Some practitioners use ice without water in the goblets to cool and calm any agitated spirit or energy. Once the ice melts, the water should be disposed of away from the home.

3. Calling in Positivity and Good Spirits

This is called Creciente, meaning waxing (growth). Here, the largest fuente is placed at the front, with the smaller goblets arranged behind it in a V shape that opens toward the back. This pattern calls in blessings, benevolent guides, and uplifting energy and is a beautiful configuration for thanksgiving, elevation, or renewal.

4. Elevating a Recently Passed Elder or Spirit

To assist a recently transitioned loved one or elder in ascending to the Light, arrange six smaller fuentes in a pyramid (pirámide) formation; three on the bottom row, two on the next, and one on top. Place the largest fuente in front of the pyramid and a white candle on each side.

This setup is traditionally used during novenas (nine days of prayer) for spiritual elevation and peace.

Thank you all for reading.
